Sunny days

I can't keep a hat on his head, but at least he keeps hydrated in the heat!

Couldn't keep the sunglasses on his face either! Thank God for Sunscreen!

A Visit to the Nature Center

Leslie Nature Center

Looking at the Turkey Vulture

Early in the springtime, before the leaves were full green on the trees, we went to the nature center located right in our community.  Leslie Nature Center has trails, community gardens, and raptors.  Kestrals, Turkey Vultures, Owls...We went to visit our feathered friends late one Sunday afternoon before dinner.

Gabriel was thrilled by the turkey vulture, but for some reason, he was scared by the owls.  He kept hiding his head on our shoulders every time we saw them.  Yet, when we saw the Mama Eagle being carried by her handler on her way to get her supper...Gabriel asked,  "Iggle, play? Please?"

It is amazing to look back just a few weeks to see how far we've come in this season of spring...

After a winter spent in a little apartment, it is so wonderful to see the delight on a child's face as he explores the wide open space of the green world.

Our New House!

Little House in a College Town

I am pleased to announce that we have our first house.  We move in around the end of June, after some painting and other necessary work is completed.  We're so delighted!  So here is a bit of a tour.

The front door.
The house was built in 1947 by a professor in the college town we live in.  The exterior and interior are western cedar.  A portrait of the house painted by the professor's wife is handed down to each owner.

View from the dining room into the living room

Nice big windows

Check out the ceiling.

Love the period details.

I plan to put simple lace panels up instead of this quilted thing.
Up until a year ago, we lived in the same neighborhood.  John used to pass by this house every day on his way to work.  He always loved the house.  When we were house hunting John found out it was on the market, saw the pictures of the interior and fell in love.  So, not only are we moving into a new house, but it is down the street from where we lived when Gabriel was born.  There is a park nearby, and a great path for biking, walking, strollering, running that goes between the football stadium and the main campus of the college.

Looking forward to filling the china cabinet.

When the house was built in the 1940's, Colonial Revival was popular.  Colonial style details like the built in corner china cabinet and iron wrought door handle and hinges are found throughout the house.

Love the stained glass lamp.

I have some china bowls from Williamsburg that will look so cute on the corner shelf.

Lots of cupboards for a little space.

Already getting in the cupboards

Entrance from the side of the house.

And now for the back hall....

It matches my antique glassware. :)

Love this sort of detailing.

I can live with yellow. Really I can.

Storage!!

A place for all my books!

The master bedroom has Jack and Jill closets and over looks the garden.

This is one corner of Gabriel's room.
